Constantine V. Nakassis is Associate Professor of Anthropology, Associate Faculty of Cinema & Media Studies and Comparative Human Development, and Chair of the Committee on Southern Asian Studies (2020–2023) at the University of Chicago. Trained as a linguistic and cultural anthropologist, with a regional focus on Tamil Nadu, India, his work has focused on questions of youth culture and linguistic practice; brands, fashion, and counterfeiting; and mass media such as television and cinema. He is the author of a number of articles and essays, as well the 2016 book, Doing Style: Youth and Mass Mediation in South India (University of Chicago Press). He is currently preparing a book manuscript on Tamil cinema entitled Onscreen/Offscreen. More about his publications can be found here.
