Member Achievement: E. Annamalai

Professor E. Annamalai has recently received numerous accolades and has been involved with various virtual events on the Tamil language and culture. We have spotlighted a few of his recent achievements below.

-The Council of the Asiatic Society, Kolkata, conferred the prestigious Professor Suniti Kumar Chatterji Lectureship to E. Annamalai for his significant contribution in Linguistics.

-Nominated to be a member of the Scientific Committee of the newly launched journal Journal of South Asian Linguistics, Philology and Grammar traditions published from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice of Italy. The goal of this academic journal is to publish “studies on the languages of the Indian subcontinent … devoted to the (“pure”) linguistic study of South Asian languages with a synchronic and/or diachronic approach .. (and)  extended to the studies on the Indian grammatical tradition (Sanskrit and non-Sanskrit) and on textual criticism.”

-And lastly, The Tamil Section of the Center for Indian Languages, Jawaharlal Nehru University hosted a three-day virtual seminar on March 23–25, 2021 dedicated to his work, where discussions were held with Professor Annamalai on his views on Tamil grammar, literature, and on the language and culture of Tamil. Professor Annamalai has made significant contributions to the COSAS community and we are grateful to have had his membership over the years. We are excited that he will stay on as a COSAS Emeritus following his retirement this year. Please join us in congratulating him on his retirement and on his many member achievements!
