The Battle for the Soul of the Dalai Lama

February 7, 2024 5:00pm-6:45pm

International House Assembly Hall

The norms of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition dictate that the Dalai Lama will leave instructions about his own incarnation. The Chinese government is likely to think otherwise. In a recent article in Foreign Affairs, Dr. Lobsang Sangay, delves into this battle for the soul of the Dalai Lama. Please join us for a conversation on the intricacies of the succession to the 14th Dalai Lama.

Dr. Sangay is Senior Visiting Fellow at the East Asian Legal Studies Program, Harvard Law School, and former Sikyong (President) of the Central Tibetan Administration in India. He will be joined in the conversation by Tom Ginsburg, a Distinguished Service Professor of International Law at the University of Chicago, where he serves as Faculty Director for the Forum on Free Inquiry and Expression.

Reception to follow.
