Discussion with Kshama Sawant

Friday, May 10, 2024 – 2:30pm, KPTC 103 Kersten Physics Teaching Center 5720 S Ellis Ave, Chicago, IL 60637

Kshama Sawant is an Indian-American politician and economist who served on the Seattle City Council from 2014 to 2024. We will discuss how and why Kshama’s team achieved passing a law banning caste discrimination in Seattle, why a similar effort in California was defeated, and what is needed to end caste oppression in general.

Note: This is a hybrid event. The South Asian Student Association at the University of Chicago will telecast the event from KPTC 103, and will provide a Zoom link for those who choose to attend virtually. Register here >> http://bit.ly/3wvRAtq
