Brāhmī Script Workshop

December 12, 2020

Virtual Event

This workshop, conducted by Andrew Ollett and Julie Hanlon, is intended to introduce the Brāhmī script to those who have no prior experience with it. We will have three series of interactive sessions offering a combination of lecture, translation of sample inscriptions, and opportunities to practice translating and engaging with inscriptions in small groups. Each session will highlight the use of Brahmi script in a different language: Middle Indic, Sanskrit, and Tamil.

This is a one-day workshop, beginning at 9:30 am (CST), with scheduled breaks from 11:10-12:10 and 1:30-2:30 and concluding at 4:30 pm. You do not need to have knowledge of these languages to participate. In each session, we will go over some short selections together, then have participants work in groups to read other selections.

The workshop will be conducted entirely on Zoom. To register, please fill out this form. This information is required to help us organize groups for the practical sessions.
